Dr. Brian Buckley is the
Executive Director of Laboratories at the Environmental and
Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) and is a member
of the graduate faculty at both Rutgers University and UMDNJ.
Dr. Buckley received a B.S. in chemistry from the University of
New Hampshire, a PhD in analytical chemistry from North Carolina
State University and has also had a post-doctoral appointment at
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has worked as a Laboratory
Manager for the Nestles Quality Assurance Laboratory in Dublin
Ohio.
His research group specializes in spectroscopic, mass
spectrometric and chromatographic instrument modification for
matrix specific analyses. Their work has focused on methods
development for the analysis of environmental contaminants at
their biological interface. Their work has included; biofluid
extractions for estimates of bioavailability, trace metals
quantification and speciation by chromatography coupled to
plasma mass spectrometry and mass spectral analysis of proteins
and metabolites as part of a new metabolomics initiative. They
have also been working on Microwave Assisted Solvent Extraction
(MASE) and Ion Trap Mass Spectrometric analysis techniques for
active contaminants, drug candidates and their metabolites. In
addition they have begun to examine the use of solid phase micro
extraction (SPME) for isolation and pre-concentration of
synthetic organic chemicals in environmental and biological
matrices.
